The Goodies ran from 1970 to 1980 on BBC1, then from 1981 to 1982 on ITV. A viewer in King’s Lynn died whilst watching The Goodies. Alex Mitchell was laughing so much at the 1975 episode Kung Fu Capers he collapsed and expired. Anyone watching the glut of half thought out comedy shows on BBC3 might suffer the same fate - except the cause of death will either be boredom or embarrassment.

The Magic Roundabout

‘Boooiinng! Time for bed!’ The Magic Roundabout began in 1964 in its original French incarnation Le Manege Enchante by Serge Danot. There were over 500 episodes made and shown in France. It was brought vividly to life for English speaking audiences by the late, great actor and voice artist Eric Thompson of Play School fame. Eric took the French episodes, minus the scripts and soundtracks, and made up stories based on what he saw. Eric, you were a bloody genius and we salute you!
